What Are Deepfakes?
Deepfakes are AI-generated videos that can make it appear as if someone said or did something they never actually did. The name comes from 'deep learning'—the AI technology used to create them—and 'fake.'
Why Deepfakes Are Dangerous
Deepfakes can be used to spread misinformation, create fake news, impersonate public figures, scam individuals, and damage reputations. They're becoming increasingly convincing and widespread.
Unlike simple photo editing, deepfakes use AI to analyze thousands of images of a person, learning their facial expressions, movements, and voice patterns to create convincing fake videos.
Key Point
Not everything you see on video is real anymore. Just as you've learned to question images, you now need to question videos too.
